Clarification from the Budget Article in Davenport Times

Many of you have likely read the article in the Davenport paper concerning the Harrington budget adoption.  To be clear for everyone, our district is not cutting athletics for the 2020-2021 school year; our district is not cutting a teaching position for the 2020-2021 school year; and we have no plans to eliminate two teaching assistant positions this year.

The discussion was framed around a requirement by the state to develop a four- year projection for the budget.  The unknown is the work to be done in the legislature this coming year and beyond.  It is however, very important our school district maintain our enrollment.  In order to develop a forecast until 2023-2024 scenarios were developed to make these forecasts fall into positive territory.  That is where the items in paragraph came up. We, the school board and administration, must consider cutbacks every year and also consider the most important things which are programs for students and instruction. We always are seeking solutions and ways to stretch our budget.  Recently grants have been a huge plus for the district, including one that is paying for all of the new roof and HVAC units.

If you have questions, please give me a call or talk to one of your school board members about our efforts.

We appreciate each of you and hope you stay healthy in these unusual times.
