Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,
Given that our school closure happened very quickly and the COVID-19 situation
continues to evolve, we know there are many questions among students and parents.
The health and wellbeing of all our students, community members, and staff is of the
utmost importance. The goal of this letter is to provide you with the information you will
need in the short term. As the situation evolves, you can expect ongoing communication
via our Facebook page, Harrington School app, our webpage: www.harringtonsd.org
and/or robo calls.
While we are still in process, we would like to share the following with you:
Meals for Students: Student meal service (breakfast and lunch) will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, March 18th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. These meals will be available at the school for student pick-up outside the front of the building. Additionally, beginning Monday, March 23 rd we will also be making deliveries to students who live in the country. Buses will leave the school at 11:00am. There is no charge for this service. However, your child must be present when the meals are delivered or picked up (example, one member of the family cannot pick up meals for everyone, following federal nutrition guidelines).
Child Care: We are working on a plan to provide child care for children ages 4 through
6th grade of parents who are considered essential military personnel, first responders,
and/or work in the medical field. We plan to have child care available for these families
beginning Monday, March 23 rd.
Parent/Staff Meetings: All previously scheduled meetings are being postponed at this
time (for example, IEP meetings, rescheduled conferences, etc.)
Academics: Our teachers are developing enrichment learning resources for students
and families. Please plan to come by the school Thursday, March 19th between 1:00 -
2:00 pm to pick up resources for students grades P-12. If that time will not work for you,
a bus will deliver them to your home Friday morning. We plan to have a similar plan
Extra-curricular: All extra-curricular activities have been cancelled during the school
closure. All facility use has also been suspended.
Personal Items: The school understand students may have left essential personal items
in their classrooms or lockers prior to the school closure. If you wish to retrieve your belongs from school, you may come into the building either Thursday, March 19th from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm or Friday, March 20 th between 9:00am – 11:00 am. If those times do not work, please call the school to make an appointment: (509)253-4331.
Social/Emotional: If you are a parent of a P-6 th grader and have any concerns or want
Ginny to check in, please email Ginny Lathem at firstname.lastname@example.org. She will
get back to you in 24 hours. Please do not leave a message at the school as she may
not be in the building. If your child is 7th -12th grade, Ginny will be contacting your son or
daughter weekly to briefly check-in. She will do this via email, text, or phone. Please
have your son or daughter email Ginny with his or her preferred contact method: cell
phone, text, or email.
Enclosed is a flier with information on our school app. If you have a smart phone, you may follow the steps to download it. Any updates that are posted to our website are also posted on the app and your phone will alert you of updates if you have notifications turned on. Also enclosed is a Coronavirus COVID-19 fact sheet.
Thank you for your continued patience, flexibility, and grace as we navigate these
challenging times together.
